How to Eliminate AOL From a Computer

Not everyone is a whiz when it comes to using a computer, or even performing some basic tasks. If you had been using an AOL (America Online) account or subscribed to the service, but now want to delete the programme, in fact completely eliminate it from your computer, then there are few simple things that you need to, such as getting your AOL account deactivated, subscription cancelled and removing the programme from the computer. The task can be completed in a matter of minute if you know what you are doing.

    The first thing that you need to do is to note down your AOL username and password in case it is proving too hard for you to remember them. This is just a precaution that you need to take in order to keep yourself prepared for any complications that may arise in the future, or In case you want to install AOL on your computer and start using the services it offers again in the future.

    In case you have an existing AOL account or subscription, you will need to cancel it. In order to do that, click on “AOL Help” or “AOL Customer Service” to get help on the procedure to get the account and subscription cancelled. In case you are struggle to understand the instructions in the “AOL Help” section and the “AOL Customer Service” is not being of much help either, you can directly talk to a AOL customer service representative and ask him to guide you through the process.

    Once you have gotten your AOL account and subscription cancelled, click the start menu button located on the bottom left corner of the screen. Clicking it will display the start menu. Locate “Control Panel” and click it to open the Control Panel window.

    In the Control Panel window, look for the programme “Add/Remove.” Since there are so many programmes in Control Panel, it may take you a few seconds to find the correct programme. Do not confuse the “Add Hardware” programme with the “Add/Remove” programme. You will be surprise at the percentage of people who end up confusing the two.

    Once you have opened the “Add/Remove” programme, a new window will appear on the screen. This new window will display the list of programmes that are installed on your system. Fortunately, the programmes are listed in an alphabetical order, thus making it really convenient for you to locate “AOL” in there. Click “AOL” and then click “Change/Remove.”

    You will be prompted to confirm if you wish to keep any downloaded files or e-mails that are saved in the Downloaded Files or Personal Filing Cabinet. If you choose “Yes,” these files and emails will be saved in a new folder on the desktop. If you choose “No,” these files and e-mails will be deleted along with the programme.
