How to Enter a Calf Tying Event

Calf roping is a popular event is a rodeo. As soon as a rider has caught a calf in a calf roping event, he is required to dismount the horse and to restrain the calf. The calf is to be restrained by tying together three of its legs.

If calf roping has become your passion over the passage of time, you may want to compete in a calf tying event. But before you can do that, there are certain prerequisites that must be addressed. Here is what you need to do to enter a calf tying event.

    Register with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) because you will not be allowed to compete in PRCA-sanctioned rodeos if you are not member of the PRCA. You will be required to fill in an application form and pay a nominal registration fee.

    Training comes next. If you do not know how to tie the calf even if you have successfully roped it, there is no way you will be able to win the event. Practice roping a dummy calf to start with, and move your way up to tying a real calf.

    While you practise, monitor the time that you take to tie the calf and try to improve on it gradually. You will end up loosing the event if you can not tie the calf quickly even if you are able to rope it before any of the other competitors. A professional roper will take a maximum of 7 to 8 seconds to properly tie the calf. Try to get as close as possible to that ideal time.

    When you think that you are fully trained, find a rodeo that goes along with your schedule. You can visit the official PRCA website for a list of upcoming rodeos and their scheduled dates. Enter the calf roping event and show your calf tying skills to the spectators.
