How to Entertain Your Ferret
Owning pets is a huge responsibility, it requires patience, dedication, care and affection coupled with discipline and a whole lot of cleaning up after. Yet what many pet owners do not realise is that pets also need to be entertained. Like all beings they have a hierarchy of needs and when they are taken out of the wild and domesticated as pets, they move up this particular hierarchy.
This means their needs go from just food and shelter to self actualisation and need for entertainment as well as social status. A recent study showed that pets on the lower levels of the hierarchy were more prone to being a nuisance around the house, while well entertained pets were more likely to sit around on the sofa and behave themselves.
Each animal has its own entertainment preferences and when it comes to ferrets they have very particular needs and requirements.

– iPod with Beats headphones
– Laptop or tablet for web browsing
– Any literary classic such as Robinson Crusoe

The thing about ferrets is that they are mostly self-sufficient when it comes to entertaining themselves as long as they have the tools needed to pursue this goal. Putting on a solid television series on and leaving a bowl of snacks is a great way to keep them entertained for a day at the very least (depending on the length of the show).

Another way to entertain the ferret is to put on some good music, dim the lights and let the ferret feel the beat. However, ferrets have become increasingly fussy over the past few years and nothing but the best in headphone technology will suit them.

The internet is a great source of information and entertainment and that is true for the ferret world as well. Just make sure you block the inappropriate ferret websites until they are of age.

Handing them a book also helps but it seems ferrets have a preference towards classic to semi-classic literature as opposed to the likes of Twilight.

A video game console may be a considerable investments but games such as Halo, Battlefield 3 and Uncharted can provide hours of entertainment to the pet ferrets and proves its worth in the long run.
