How to Exercise During a Fast

Fasting has been found to be great for health. It is compulsory in most major religions and billions of people fast during different times in the year. It certainly does have an effect on your physical capabilities and you are not as active or energetic during normal days.

If you are working out and have a goal, fasting can certainly disturb it. However, you can still exercise if you do it carefully and intelligently. It is something that will require the right attitude and you should be able to exercise while you fast.

    Reduce Intensity

    While fasting, it is not possible for you to go nuts on the treadmill or do sets of a hundred pushups. You will have to reduce the intensity and take it easy. This will not have ill effects on the body as you are likely going to drain all your energy in little time if you maintain high intensity workouts.

    Lighter Exercises

    Do lighter exercises along with a reduced intensity. Do not do too many pushups or chin ups and replace them with less absorbing exercises. You can avoid running and jogging and take up walking instead. Generally there is a difference of approximately 25% of calories that burn to the advantage of running the same distance but it is still important that you will be burning calories while you walk. It is much better than exhausting yourself and being unable to exercise or workout at all.

    Do Gardening

    This is another good form of exercise as you have to bend, sit and stand for various activities. You will need to use your strength if you rake leaves of pull out the weeds from the grass. It is a fun hobby that will also help you in getting some exercise done.

    Drink Water

    In many cases you will not be drinking water during the fast but doing so while you are not fasting, make sure that you down a ton of it. Drink it every now and again and although you may have some trips to the washroom, it will keep your body cleansed and the lack of water during the day will be compensated. Water is extremely important and if you do not drink enough, you will not be able to exercise much, but you can also hurt your kidneys.
