How to Fall Back Asleep when you Wake Up

Time and time again, doctors emphasise on the importance of getting at least eight hours of sleep at night. Majority of the people who work for a living find themselves dealing with an extremely hectic routine, which make them feel burnt out at the end of the day, both physically and mentally. Sleep allows their mind and body to rest and get ready for the next day.

If, for some reason, a person has their sleep interrupted, it is imperative that they go back into slumber. This, however, is easier said than done. Fortunately, there are ways to get back to sleep after waking up in order to give the body and mind ample time to rest.

    If you find yourself awake in the middle of the night, do not get up from the bed to turn on the lights. If you become physically active, your brain will assume that it is time to start waking up. Just keep lying on bed to make it clear to both your body and brain that the rest time is not over yet.

    If you really must need some light in the room, use your cell-phone or keep a flashlight in the drawer for the purpose.

    Do some relaxing technique such as deeply breathing in and out while counting numbers. Focus on making all the muscles in your body relaxed while doing this. Do not let anything but the numbers float in your mind.

    If you are not a huge fan of numbers, you will find this technique working even more effectively. As the tension from your muscles is released, you will find yourself drifting back to sleep.

    Do not start staring out of the window to count the stars, as you might find yourself appreciating the beauty of the sky and wondering what lies beyond the stars instead of counting them.

    Listening to music is a great way to relax one’s mind. Always keep a portable music player such as an iPod on your bedside table before you go to sleep. When your slumber is interrupted and stubbornly refuses to return, start listening to some soothing music. Keep your mind clear instead of focusing too much on the lyrics of the songs. It will only be a matter of time before you find yourself becoming drowsy again.
