How to Fishtail Braid your own Hair
Fishtail braids, also known as herringbone braids owing to their distinctive pattern, immediately add an element of elegance to any look, and their intricate and delicate design is aesthetically appealing on many levels. However, these braids are notoriously difficult to make, and far from fishtail braiding someone else’s hair, is the more daunting task of braiding your own hair in this style.
However, with plenty of practice on someone else, and the right technique, you can begin to learn how to fishtail braid your own hair – try the version where you begin by making a basic ponytail, and once you get good enough at it, you can start doing it without the ponytail.
Things Required:
– A hair brush
– Two hair elastics
Instructions
-
1
Begin by brushing your hair so it is smooth, tangle free, and easy to work with. Then you can begin working on making your fishtail braid.
-
2
First, pull your hair back in to a ponytail, and secure it with an elastic band. Before doing this, you may part your hair down the middle if you wish, or simply pull it all back straight.
-
3
Then, divide the hair in your ponytail in to two equal sections. Hold one section in each hand.
-
4
Next, switch the sections to one hand, and make a third section by taking some hair out of the first section.
-
5
Cross this third section and take it over to combine it with section two. Once again, you will now be left with two sections. Then, take a small portion of hair out of section two, and cross it over to combine it with section one.
-
6
Repeat this alternating process until you reach the end of the length of your hair, or whatever length you were aiming for. Secure the hair where the braid ends with the second elastic band. Your fishtail braid is now ready.
