Understanding the relation between Power and speed
Power and speed are interrelated, especially when it comes to martial arts. Therefore it is important that you start with the basics before performing exercises that will increase your speed. Warming up properly before an exercise is essential in order to engage all your muscles to perform all sorts of aerobic activities. This will not only include proper breathing, and certain stretching exercises ,but running a mile or two as well. Start with a quick walk, before shifting your focus on jogging. With time, it is not a bad idea to incorporate sprinting. However, don’t lose focus as the goal is to break a light sweat, which makes you ready for the proper work out. -

Work at your own pace
Now hit the gym and start performing exercises which strengthen muscles to improve power and speed. Remember, set yourself an achievable target and stick to it until you achieve it.
Don’t try to be cheeky from the word go. For instance if you can perform 30 push-ups, then keep a reasonable target in your mind – say 35. Doing clapping push-ups or drop push-ups will increase your absorption power. In theory, it relates to creating power your body can absorb.
For instance, if you want to increase your punching power, start by hitting a punching bag and repeat the exercise for a week or two to achieve consistency. As your muscle builds, you can use speed bags for greater precision or practice punching by working with a trainer or a partner. The goal is to gain speed and the only way to do is to punch the pad as fast as possible. -

Remain focused
With time, there will be host of different exercise you can perform to increase your speed and power. Make sure to keep certain factors in mind such as the amount of load your body can sustain, breaking the workout into sets, and incorporating proper repetitions. Break your workout by focusing on your arms a particular day, before moving on to the lower body. With time, you will have all body parts working as sharp as you had imagined.
