How to Get Better At Drawing from Imagination

The empty page is very intimidating for almost all artists. A number of times the toughest part of drawing is to decide what to draw. If you can’t think of anything when you turn to the next page in your drawing book or you see that you are drawing similar things time and time again, you should explore your mind and use your imagination about what to draw next. The most effective way to improve your imagination for drawing is to just explore and enhance your imagination each day. There are other ways to get better as well, but you need to work really hard in order to achieve that.

    Capture moments with a camera

Snap photos of everyday life and what you see or wherever you go. Be aware of the fact that as an artist, you should be able to draw virtually everything. If you take a photo of all amazing things you see, you will possess a portfolio of prospective pieces at all times even when your imagination is at a low point. Majority of the cell phones have cameras. Therefore, there is no need to purchase an expensive camera; you can just take a photo with your phone. Interestingly, phones now have good quality cameras depending on their price and make.

Make a diary to share your experiences with

Try to make a journal. This can be labelled as a journal of your everyday experiences, but you need to write in it every other day. Moreover, if you are not fond of writing on a piece of paper, you have the option of saving your work on your laptop or record it on your phone. After some time, you can read the notes on your journal and improve your imagination by past drawings.

    Get inspiration from various artists

Always keep an eye on what the other people are drawing. This will give you a different dimension to look at. Artists normally don’t require a specialised degree in arts history, but it does not hurt to see what other people are drawing. You can always learn a thing or two from other artists’ art. Visit your local gallery on a regular basis, or sign up on Deviantart.com and surf through various online galleries. Don’t avoid looking at other people’s work. It also does not matter if your art is completely different from other artists, you can still get an idea or two to help in your work.
