Open your web browser and write “windows.microsoft.com” in the address bar, without the quotes. Now you need to scroll down to the bottom of the page, where you will see Microsoft Security Essentials listed under the “Products” section. Click on it, and you will be taken to the Microsoft Security Essentials’ download page.

You will now see “Protect your PC” written with big font, at the left side of the page. Right under it, you will find the green coloured “Download Now” button. Click on it, and you will be asked to select the language which you want to use for your antivirus program.

For instance, if you want to download the English version of the Microsoft Security Essentials, then you can scroll down the page and click the “Select Your Version” drop-down menu appearing against “English” section.

From the list of options, you need to select the version of the Windows operating system installed in your computer. After selecting the version of Windows, the “Download” button will become active, as it turns from grey to light blue in colour.

Click on it, and the download process will start. You will have to wait for few minutes, depending upon the speed of your internet connection.

Once the download is complete, you can double click on the downloaded file and the installation process will start. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the installation.

After the installation is complete, double click the Security Essentials icon present in the system tray, and click the “Scan Now” button to check for any virus or malware affected files present in your computer.

In order to update your computer, click the “Update” tab, and then click the “Update” button. The program will then search for any virus definition updates available.
