How To Get Freedom Pass In London

Freedom Pass is a free travel facility given to senior-citizens of London (age 60 and above) or those having a disability. The pass, which is a smartcard, can be used on various public transport facilities of London. The scheme of freedom card was proposed by Greater London Council in 1973. However, when Greater London Council was relinquished in 1986, London Borough Councils took the responsibility of the scheme. The eligibility to obtain a freedom is said to be increased to 66 years of age by 2020. It is quite easy to apply and obtain a freedom card and one can easily get a freedom pass in few days if eligible.

    Eligibility Criteria

    The receipient of the card has to be 60 years or above or must be a disabled person. If the degree of disability matches the criteria, as checked by the local councils, then the applicant is eligible to obtain a freedom pass.

    Validity of the Freedom Pass

    The freedom pass is valid on London Buses, London Underground, London Overground and DLR For National Rail the applicability and validity is conditional and keeps changing from time to time.

    Filling the Form

    Submission of Application in Post office
