How To Get Taxi Card In London

London Taxi card is a worthwile scheme designed for those who are unable to move freely due to some long term disability or physical impairment like blindness etc. The physically challenged person thus use a (black) taxi on for commution puroposes subsidized by their respective Borough under taxicard scheme. The holders of Taxicard books his/her trip for a black taxi using telephone or online and pays only a flat charge while the trip is heavily subisidized by the Borough. The scheme is administered by London Councils but is funded by local Borough and Mayor of London. Every Borough has its own application form to be filled in and then sent to London Councils to get a taxicard.

    Eligibility

    Only those people that have a long term disability and thus unable to walk or severely sight impaired are eligible to get the facility of taxicard. One must, however, be able to use black taxis and have access to telephone or taxis and should be living in the participating Boroughs to get a taxi card.

    How to Use the Service

    You book the trip online or via telephone for a (black taxi) and pay the flat fare decided by your Borough. The remaining charges of the trip are heavily subsidized by your Borough.

    How to Apply and Receive a Taxicard

    In order to apply for a taxicard, get an application form by clicking here. The application form varies from Borough to Borough. You have to fill in the application form, attach required documents and then send to the Council as instructed. The taxicard will be sent to you after a few weeks with a detailed guideline.

    By Tube

    From the London Bridge tube station move southwest on Borough High St/A3 toward Bedale St and take a slight right onto Southwark St/A3200. The London Councils office will be on your left. View Map

    By Bus

    The nearest bus stop is Great Guildford St Southwark St (Stop BM). You can reach this bus stop using 381, ‎N343,N381 and RV1. Move east on Southwark street toward A300 to reach the London Councils.
