On this day, open the doors of your heart and your home to an elderly neighbor. We all know someone in the neighborhood who lives alone and does his/her own chores. Such people do not cook festive meals because there is no one to share it with. Make extra room on the dinner table and make them feel a part of the family.

If inviting someone over to your house does not seem a feasible idea, then help an elder to decorate his/her house. This way he/she would also get to experience the festivity of the holiday. Decorating can be tiresome at times so volunteer to spend an afternoon and decorate the tree and the living room. You can also help them by driving them to a farm to buy the tree.

Around Christmas there are a lot of community functions or plays in children's schools. Ask if he/she would accompany you to such a function. This way they would get a chance to get out of the house and get in the holiday mood. Seeing lights and listening to music will lift their spirits.

Christmas carols are an important part of this holiday, the streets are filled with the voices of children singing their favorite holiday songs. This time take your group to a community center or old age home and add melodies to their lives. Encourage them and ask them to participate as well. This will surely bring a smile to their faces.
