How to Hold a Child When Pregnant

Holding your child when you are pregnant is surely not recommended because your belly is expanding and there is a shift of the centre of gravity in your body, putting immense pressure on your lower back. On top of that, many women feel light-headed when pregnant, so if you reach down to pick up your toddler, you may feel weak or dizzy after standing up. You can hold a baby in the initial four to five months of pregnancy, but you still need to be very careful and must adopt certain techniques to make sure that you and your baby remain safe.

Instructions

    Train your child

You must make efforts to avoid holding your children. However, this can be increasingly difficult at times, especially if your spouse works 9 to 5. In such a scenario, you must utilise your communication skills with your baby and try to train him/her for the situation. Most mothers make their toddlers feel very special through other gestures, and as a result, they do not have to pick them up too often.

Rather than lifting your child many times, you should try to make him/her walk by letting the baby hold your finger.

Make the baby sit in your lap

If the baby does not walk, you should try to make him/her sit in your lap, rather than having to hold the toddler and stand.

  • 3

    Bend your knees

If you fail to succeed in the above mentioned steps and are not left with any other option but to hold your child, you must bend your knees nicely and form an appropriate position before picking up the baby. Without bending your knees, you will put additional pressure on your joints and back. You will give yourself the required cushion to pick up the child by bending your knees.

  • 4

    Keep your back straight

Many pregnant women commit a blunder by moving, bending and twisting their back while holding their child. This puts them under great risk. While holding your child, your back should be completely straight and you must not bend that at any cost.

    Flat shoes

If you have to hold your baby while you are pregnant, you must wear flat shoes to avoid any risk of falling down. Flat shoes will help you decrease pressure from the back and knees.
