The word ‘fireplace’ flashes an image of home, comfort and warmth. Fire places sure are the focal points of our homes. On the negative side, fireplaces could be potential sources of domestic fire accidents.Be it a child extending a hand to the fire out of curiosity or a flying spark aiming for your carpet, live fire is never friendly. You can reduce any such threat by installing a fireplace screen. There are fireplaces that do not need to be installed and can be made to stand in front f the fireplace. However, others come in door form and you have to install them properly. We have laid down the installation process below to help you in the task.

Things you need:

– Power drill
– Philips-head screwdriver
– Vacuum
– Fireplace door/screen
– Hardware (comes with door)
– Concrete anchors
– 5/16 masonry drill bit
– Hammer
– Socket wrench
– Pliers

Instructions

  • 1

Lean the screen door against your knee and use a screw driver to remove the lintel (top) and brackets (brackets) screws from the back. Keep these four screws with you for later use.

Since it is a glass screen, do not let it rest against something rough like the brick wall because the glass will get scratched.

  • 2

Assemble the two lintel clamps that came with the door and attach them to the top.

After you are done with the lintel clamps, attach the two brackets to the bottom of the door. They are L-shaped.

  • 3

Align the screen against the fireplace now. Keeping a firm hand over the screen unit, reach inside the door to mark the point where the brackets meet the floor with a marker. The groves of the brackets will help you. Since there are two brackets, you will have two marks.

  • 4

Remove the screen door now and put it aside on some soft padding. Use a drill/driver fitted with a 5/16-inch masonry bit t drill 2 inch holes into the two marks you made for the brackets. Hammer down lead anchors into these holes.

Put the door against the fireplace opening, this time to install it permanently. The door should flush against the exterior of the fireplace. Reach inside the door and screw the brackets into the lead anchors. This will secure the bottom of the door to the fireplace floor.

Fasten the upper clamps to the lintel bar at the top of the fire box. You just have to tighten the clamp into the lintel with your fingers. Once this is secured, your work is complete and you can now sit back and enjoy the fire without worrying about any kind of burns.
