How to Install a Subfloor in Basement
You can turn the basement of your house into an office space or a recreation room for your kids, rather than making it a store room. Floating subfloor can be installed in the basement and mind you, this is the best possible solution to make your basement comfortable. This type of floor is slightly cushioned and it really feels nice when you walk on it. You will need to measure down the dimensions of the room you wish to install the floor panelling. The floating floor is available in 2-by-2 feet panels and you have to take the measurement accordingly. It will be very helpful if you sketch a layout on your floor to see how it will work out. Keep in mind that measurement holds key importance in the entire process.

You will also require panel joints, just like the staggered joints of bricks, for installing the floating panels in their right position.

Use a chalk to mark out the few initial rows on the floor and to position the staggered joints appropriately.

You must leave a ΒΌ inch strapping around the perimeter of your room. This will account for the possible expansion of the floor tiles in high temperatures of summer. Line up the strapping along the walls and then place the floating tiles against it.

Place a floor panel in one corner of the floor and then keep adding more panels alongside it. You have to use a hammer and a wooden block to affix the tongue-and-groove joints in their place. Using a hammer alone to tap the joints might damage the panels and that is why a wooden block is also recommended to do the job.

It is extremely important that you tightly install the first row of panels, as the entire remaining floor will depend on it. Once if the opening row is placed perfectly, you can easily keep adding more rows until the entire room is covered.
