How to Keep your Baby from Getting Sunburned

In order to protect yourself from skin burns, skin cancer or sunburns, you need to take proper measures. Remember that babies have even more vulnerable and delicate skin. Their skin can burn quickly when exposed to sun. Thus they require more protection and care. It is strongly recommended that you refrain taking your baby out in sun for the first six months. You need to prefer staying in shades and apply sunscreens on your baby who is of age ranging from six months to two years.

    Consult a doctor or a paediatrician

    You need to pay visit to a doctor or a paediatrician and consult him about how much sunlight is good for the child. In case your child is younger than six months old, you need to avoid going under sunlight.

    Go outdoors when sun is less strong

    You need to visit to a park or any outdoor area when the sun’s intensity is less strong. The sun is brightest between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. so you need to avoid going out in these times of the day. Remember that Ultra Violet rays can damage a baby’s skin so you should take caution.

    Stay in shade

    You should keep the baby in shade. In case your baby stroller has a protector, you need to avail it. When you visit a beach park, you should find an umbrella or stand under a tree. Besides this you need to get a stroller which covers the whole body of your baby for sun protection purposes.

    Dressing

    You should properly dress your baby when taking him out. When going out in sun, you need to always place a hat on his head. In addition to this, you need to put light clothing on your baby. This is because light colours reflect heat whereas darker colours absorb heat.

    Sunscreen

    You need to get a high quality sun screen which is suitable for babies. It needs to be waterproof and the SPF should be at least 30. You need to apply sunscreen on all areas which are exposed such as face and hands. Carry it with you in the diaper bag and apply it again after every two to three hours.
