How to Keep Your Dog Cool
The sun can be quite merciless in the summer, making it a real ordeal to leave the comfort and coolness of the indoors to go out for anything. If you are eventually forced to get out of the house and face the tough weather, you probably try to beat the heat by wearing minimal clothes that are of a really thin fabric.
Your dog, on the other hand, does not have such options available to it. Irrespective of the weather, it cannot take off its furry coat.
You probably love your dog and do not want it to get sick or even die from the scorching hot weather. Fortunately, there are a number of things that you can do to keep it cool.

– Sunscreen

On a really hot day, fill up a large tub with cool water and leave it outside for your dog to play in. Make sure that the water is nice and cool by putting some ice in it. Dogs typically hate getting wet, but on a really hot day, you will find yourself getting surprised by their willingness to step in. You can even take advantage of the situation and give them a bath. In fact, they might even enjoy it for a change.

Make sure there is a shade of some sort in the garden area to help your dog stay out of the sun. Keeping it exposed to direct sunlight will be pretty inhumane on your part. You need to remember that sun affects a dog in the same way it affects a human.

Try to keep your dog off the floor and pavement that is too hot. It can hurt their paws just as it can hurt your bare feet. If it feels like roaming around, let it do so on the grass and other surface that is relatively cool. You can let it walk around in your house as well, though be sure to keep an eye on your dog.

If it is a really hot day, do not take the dog out for its daily walk. Exercising will only cause the heat to take a greater toll on the dog, thus making it feel worse.

Apply a sunscreen on your dog to keep it from getting sunburned. Dogs with short hair or exposed skin are particularly prone to suffer from sunburn.

Use a pair of scissors to trim your dog’s furry coat. This will help them feel a lot cooler. If you are not good with the scissors, take your dog to a professional groomer.

Under no circumstance should you leave your dog alone in a car on a hot day. It is pretty dangerous and will definitely get you in trouble with animal welfare if they take notice. If you have no option but to leave it in the car, then make sure that the windows are rolled down and there is water in the vehicle.
