  First of all, you have to remove your sink from the countertop along with any other fixture you have on it. After that, you have to take off the backsplash with the help of a crow bar. Then, mark the wall where your backsplash was to sand it afterwards.

  Now, you have to sand the countertop with the help of a power sander and fifty-grit sandpaper so as to make a surface (i.e. abraded) if you plan to install over a cover.

  Clean the dust after sanding with a rag or a damp sponge. Then, you have to take off the lamination gently after softening the corners with a heat gun.

  Make your design or layout by placing your tiles on the countertop. You can use tile spacers in order to note down the route lines. After that, you have to cut the tiles in suitable sizes so that they may fit on the countertop.

  Take an electric tile polisher to polish the corners of the tiles. Then, lay down the tiles by using mortar (thin-set) and the trowel. You have to apply the patches of mortar according to the requirement of the places where you are going to set the tiles. You can take help from the title spacer.

  It is extremely important for you to make sure that all the tiles are placed perfectly on the surface before you tap them with rubber mallet to settle them down properly. Apply the mortar and let it cure for around one day.

  Then, you have to fill the gaps between the titles. Clean any excess grout on the surface with a sponge. Now, apply the grout sealer with a paintbrush. Keep the tiles clean from the sealer.

  Use water-resistant caulk on the upper side of the backsplash. Then, fix the wooden trim with the screws, screw plugs and caulk.
