Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 8 to 10 minutes
Baking Time: 40 minutes
Total Time:
One hour
Serving Size: 4 to 5 persons
Utensils: Oven, sauce pan, 9 x 13 inch baking dish

Ingredients:

– 1 pound lasagna noodles
– Mozzarella cheese, shredded
– Parmesan, Romano or other dry grating cheese
– 1 can tomato sauce
– 2 garlic cloves, cut lengthwise
– 1 tablespoon parsley flakes
– Several large basil leaves
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– Salt and pepper
– Cook spinach, drained and chopped (optional)

Instructions

  • 1

Begin by making the filling/pasta sauce for your lasagna layers. Take one tablespoon of olive oil in a sauce pan and heat it on medium heat. Now sizzle chopped garlic in the hot oil for a couple of minutes and then remove them and discard.

  • 2

Now add tomato sauce and basil leaves (cut into small pieces) to the oil. Also sprinkle parsley, salt and pepper and simmer it covered for half an hour. Your pasta sauce is ready.

  • 3

Take a large size pot and fill it 3-4 quarts with water. Also add a pinch of salt to it and bring it to boil on medium high heat.

  • 4

Once the water starts boiling, slowly add lasagna noodles to the pot and let them cook until al dente (8 to 10 minutes) while stirring occasionally to keep the noodles from sticking together.

  • 5

Once the noodles are al dente, remove them from the stove, run them through a strainer and set aside.

  • 6

Take a 9 x 13 inch baking dish and line its base with a thin layer of pasta sauce that you had made earlier. Make sure that the pasta sauce is just enough to cover the bottom of the dish.

  • 7

Add a layer of boiled lasanga noodles on the top of the pasta sauce and sprinkle salt and pepper.

  • 8

Again pour the pasta sauce (1/3rd of the amount) on the top of the noodles. If you are using spinach or shredded meat, add half of them and then cover it with grated mozzarella cheese. Again add a layer of the pasta sauce.

  • 9

Add a layer of noodles on top of the sauce and repeat the above layering process, that is - noodles, salt and pepper, sauce, spinach or meat, mozzarella cheese, and a drizzle of sauce.

  • 10

Add the last layer of the noodles, sprinkle salt and pepper followed by a drizzle of pasta sauce. Properly cover the dish with shredded mozzarella cheese and then add a layer of Romano or Parmesan cheese.

  • 11

Pour a few drops of olive oil on the top and spread it evenly.

  • 12

Cover the dish with an aluminium foil and put it in the oven preheated at 375 degrees Fahrenheit to bake for 20 to 25 minutes.

  • 13

After 25 minutes, remove the aluminium foil and bake the lasagna for another 15 minutes.

  • 14

Remove the dish from the oven and allow it to set on the room temperature for half an hour before serving.
