How to Level a Pool Table
You love to play pool so much that you have bought your own table at home but you feel you are missing strokes and the pool balls tend not to move freely when slowing down. Well, it clearly indicates that you haven’t levelled your pool table and the balls are not able to roll evenly. You will notice that balls tend to roll on one or the other side of the table abnormally. This can leads to severe inaccuracy of strokes, especially playing slower shots. So you must level your pool table before practicing to build up your game. A few household tools can be effectively used and you can perform this task by yourself.

1
Adjusting height of the table
First of all, go through the table manufacturer’s manual to see if there are any specifications or features to adjust the height of the table. Many pool tables have adjustable legs, making it easier for you to alter the height. See if your pool table has this feature or not. Image courtesy to stevedaking.com -

Test the level of the pool table
A carpenter’s level can enable you to examine whether your pool table is perfectly levelled or not. Place the carpenter’s level in the centre of the table and then to all four corners to check. If your table is perfectly levelled, the bubble in the carpenter’s level will settle in the middle of the two lines on the gauge. If not, then your table needs adjustments. image courtesy to oncueinstalls.com -
3
Add plates to table legs
If you have discovered that your pool table is not levelled at any corner, insert flat metal plats to pool table’s legs in that corner. Following the instructions in the user manual should make it easy for you. -
4
Adjust table legs
If your pool table has adjustable legs, you can take out the pins or screws in the legs to adjust the height of the table. Again, user manual should be followed. -
5
Using shims
Shims can be used if the pool table legs are not adjustable. Ask you assistant to lift up the table and place shims under the legs of the pool table and then lower the table. Keep using carpenter’s level to monitor the level of the table and do adjustments accordingly. -
6
Check the table level
Once you have done with the level adjustments, roll a call on the table to view the balance. Look carefully to the path of the rolling ball and determine whether it rolls to a particular side or keep its straight path. Adjust the table level again if the ball goes off course. -
7
Use piece of glass to check the level
Place a piece of flat glass in the middle of the table and put a piece of marble on it. Then, place a ball on top of it. If your pool table is perfectly balanced, the ball will remain on the spot you placed it. If it rolls to a particular side, this will indicate you need to readjust table height from that side. Repeat this process on every corner of the table and keep making adjustments until you get a perfectly levelled pool table!
