How to Lift a Two Wheel Drive Truck

You might feel the need of lifting up your truck for changing a punctured tire or any sort of maintenance work underneath it. Normally, there is not much technicality involved in lifting up a truck and it is pretty much the same as other cars. However, the only difference is between the lifting points of a truck. These lifting points differ from model to model and also depend upon whether your truck is four wheel drive or just conventional two wheel drive. You just need to keep some pointers in mind before lifting up your two wheel drive truck at home.

Instructions

  • 1

First of all, pull up the emergency break of your truck to bring it into a secure stationary position. For automatic vehicles, you will require to turn on the ‘Park’ mode.

  • 2

Make sure your truck is not on a slopping surface and is stationary on flat ground. Slopping surface makes it difficult for you to maintain the balance of your truck and it might be disastrous in the end.

Now begin with the driver’s side tire in the front and for lifting it up, you are required to secure the back tire of the same side with wheel stops. Balance and weight needs to be maintained carefully, as these two elements alter and become very crucial when you lift up a vehicle. Any carelessness might result in a rolling hazard and it can cause some real damage.

Take out the truck lifting jack and place it under the jack point, which will be located near the driver’s side front tire. You can look through the owner’s manual to find the jacking spots.

Slowly lift the wheel off the ground and place a jack stand under the truck for the support. You must be very careful to place the stand at the right spot, otherwise the same rolling hazard will become evident. Ensure the jack stand is placed at the metal frame rail, as it is the safest point to be used for this purpose.

Now slowly withdraw the jack from its point. Move on to the passenger’s side front tire and place the jack at the jacking point, like you did for the first tire. Lift up the tire and place the other jack stand at the secure position to lift your two wheel truck off the ground.
