How to Make a Bedtime Book

Almost all parents complain about their kids that they do not have a proper bedtime routine. Amazingly, no one ever tried to find the reason behind this behaviour. Recent studies show that kids are not interested in old methods of building a bedtime routine.

If you belong to that group of parents then do not worry as now you have a valid solution for this problem. You can make a bedtime book to encourage your kids to have a proper routine. Moreover, this book will also fill their minds with a sense of achievement.

    Write down every step:

The most effective technique to make a bedtime book is to put each and every step in writing. You should mention all the steps in a sequence and you will see how well they work in building a proper routine. However, keep it short, direct and clear. For example, you should include actions like brushing teeth, drinking milk and taking a bath.

  • 2

    Formulate a story:

You should follow the pattern of a story. Use real names and details to develop an attachment. Start your sentence with your child’s name and the action you want him/her to perform. For instance, "Kelly takes a shower, brushes her teeth and lies down with a teddy bear." You can engage your kids in this process by asking them to help you in mentioning details.

    Keep the sentences positive:

You should take care of the language especially when describing the action that your kids resist. For example, if your child cries while having a shower then do not mention this as it is. You can change your kid’s mind by portraying it in a positive manner. You can write, “Kelly takes a shower to stay clean and healthy.”

    Include photographs:

You can make this bedtime book more interesting by including photos of your kids. It is better to attach a relevant photo. For example, if you are going to write about your kid’s eating routine then paste a photo in which your kids are having a glass of milk or a snack.

    Make a cover page:

You must create a colourful cover page for the book. Include your child’s photo on the cover and mention his/her name.

  • 6

    Arrange the pages:

Arrangement is very important. You should pile all the pages in a sequence so that the reading helps your kids to perform all the actions in a proper order.
