Instructions

  • 1

You can use a cardboard or any similar sort of material for making the mock-up ramp at first. The launch and transition angles of the ramp are extremely vital in designing the ramp.

  • 2

If you have smaller area to build the ramp, such as driveways, it is better to have a smaller launching angle to managing the momentum of your BMX cycle. For wider areas and larger ramps, you can make the slope as steep as you desire.

Once deciding the angles and fully examining the mock-up ramp, deconstruct it and use its pieces to make tracings on the plywood. Use ½ inch thick plywood for this purpose and you will be required to slash two side panels for making the ramp. Take another 3/8 inch thick plywood for cutting out a piece of ramp face. You can use a hand-held saw or any other appropriate cutting tool for this purpose.

For every 4 inches of the ramp face, you will be required to slash one section of 2x4 plank of wood. Just make sure that the cut section of plank should be an inch shorter than the overall width of the ramp you are making.

Now take the 2x4 plank and attach the side panels alongside its edges. Make sure to space out the plank sections at every four inches and a space of 2 inches is to be kept at the sides of both edges. This spacing is to make the ramp stronger.

For the safety reasons, you have to be ensured that the plank sections don’t stick out from the edges of the sides. This may cause uneven surface and can result in discomfort while cycling.

Attach the ramp face upon the planks, screwing the two pieces of ramp together tightly.
