1
Begin with butcher paper
Start the project with a material covered backing or butcher paper. Install a border of your selection. Young students can write a biography to support this project. Separate the draft writing and brainstorming into three paragraphs like past, present and future so that you get great ideas. Make the kids finalise their drafts and cut them into 8x9 inch papers. Change the font size or install multiple pages. Cut the white card-stock well in advance and use one sheet for each student. -

Further instructions
To start a self portrait, tell the kids to select a skin coloured paper matching their skin tone. You can buy these from any arts supply store. Ask students to write their name on the back of white card-stock before making them paste their head shape on the paper. Begin with the eyes. Cut out a circle and fold the white square to make two exact sized circles of around nickel size. Try this with eye coloured paper as well, but use a dime size. Urge the kids to stack and paste the circles to make the eyes. Remember to put the eyes on the same line as the ears. -

Use of construction paper
Different colours of construction paper can be cut out to make hair, a shirt, a mouth and also hair accessories, jewellery and eyebrows. Students can put the cut paper before pasting it onto their head shape. This will draw out eyes on the forehead and odd hair. Glitter glue can create good accents and is helpful for kids who wear jewellery and glasses. You can put a picture of a student in the bottom corner of the artwork.
