How to Make a Child’s Cooking Apron

Do you notice the glint of fascination on your child’s face when  you cook for him with an apron tied around your waist? Well that fascination can easily be satisfied unlike most of his outrageous wish lists. This is your chance to play super mom with him and make him an apron without spending much.

You just need basic cutting and sewing skills and it can be done while he is at school. Suprise him with it and invite him to  stir the cooking pot once in a while. Make up a chef cap for him to complete his costume.

Things you need:

– Fabric
– Scissors
– Sewing Machine

Instructions

Use a long paper sheet or newspaper for the pattern. Make a pattern 25'' in length and 20 inches in width. It all depends on your child's height and the length you want to cover. Fold it in half.

Put the fabric onn the pattern and cut accordingly, leaving extra room for sewing. You will have to cut two pieces, i.e. one for the front and other for the back.

Make a pocket for the apron using two small pieces of fabric. One piece should be a bit smaller then the other. Sew on the right sides facing each other, leaving a small gap enough to turn the fabric.

After you are done sewing turn the pocket inside out through the small opening.  and then hand sew it close. You can do without a pocket too.

Make your straps now. Cut four long narrow pieces of fabric from the original piece or any other that you wish. Fold them in half on the opposite side. Sew them up length wise on each side. Put these straps under the seams of the front piece and sew them. Two should be on each side of the waist while two be used on the neck.
