Thinking what to do with the leftover cheese? Try this Creamy Cheese Fondue recipe with whatever type of cheese you have on hand and come up with a delicious and velvety dish. You can serve this rich and creamy Cheese Fondue with some crusty multi-grain or French bread loaves or raw vegetable and fruit slices.
Ingredients
- Dry white wine – 1 cup
- Shredded Swiss cheese – ½ pound
- Gruyere cheese – ½ pound
- All-purpose flour – 2 tablespoons
- Salt – ¼ teaspoon
- Ground nutmeg – ¼ teaspoon
- Whole grain bread, rye bread or French bread – 1 loaf
- Vegetable dippers
Instructions
- Pour 1 cup of dry white wine into a medium fondue pot and bring it to simmer over stove’s medium-low heat level.
- Add in half pond of the shredded Gruyere and Swiss cheese – ¼ pound at a time.
- Now use a wooden ladle to stir this wine-cheese mixture until both types of cheese dissolve completely and form a rich combination.
- Sprinkle the 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, ¼ teaspoon of salt and ¼ teaspoon of finely ground nutmeg over the top of the cheese-wine mixture.
- Now continue slow stir-cook for 3 to 5 minutes in order to avoid sticking to the sides of the pot.
- Turn off the stove’s heat, cover the fondue pot, let the Creamy Cheese Fondue simmer for few more minutes and thicken in texture.
- Don’t waste the available time and prepare the dippers.
- Rinse and drain your favourite vegetables until dry completely.
- Peel them if required and then cut them into medium slices, using a knife.
- Cut your favourite or the mentioned bread into bite sized loaves.
- Arrange the dippers all around large serving platter, leaving the centre to place the Creamy Cheese Fondue.
- Pour the Creamy Cheese Fondue into a serving bowl or Fondue bowl and place in the centre of the arranged dippers in the platter.
- Now enjoy your yummy Creamy Cheese Fondue in a traditional style; pick the dippers with pair of chopsticks or fork, dip into the fondue and eat!
