How to Make a Dental Crown at Home
There is a natural crown on teeth to protect them from cavities. If you do not brush your teeth regularly it may get damaged. Sometimes the cavities penetrate deep inside the tooth and then there is no alternate other than to get a root canal operation. In this procedure, the pain sensitive nerve inside the tooth is killed with the help of needles.
After a root canal operation, or if your crown got damaged any other way, you will have to get a dental crown for your tooth. Most crowns available in the market are quite expensive. However there is no need to worry, you can make a dental crown all by yourself.
Things Required:
– Baking Soda
– Warm water
– Dental tray
– Impression material
– Putty material
Instructions
-
1
Clean your mouth with a mouth wash and rinse it with water two or three times. Put half a table spoon of baking soda in one cup of water and rinse your mouth with it.
-
2
The crown cannot be made without taking an impression of the tooth because it has to be of the exact shape and size or it will not fit in your tooth. Arrange a dental tray and take an impression of your teeth with the help of the impression material. You will have to press it really hard on your tooth, so it may cause some bleeding and pain as well.
-
3
After getting the impression push it hard in the tray at the place where you want the crown. There should be no air bubbles, if present remove them with your fingers.
-
4
Put the tray in your mouth and press down or up depending on the location of the tooth. Hold the tray for about 2 minutes and chew hard on it. Take the tray out of your mouth and allow the impression about 24 hours to harden.
-
5
Take out the impression material out of the tray with your hands. Wear Dental gloves during this step. Do not grip the impression too hard or it may break. Inspect the impression, if it does not contain any air bubbles you are good to go.
-
6
Put the putty material inside the impression area. Press it with your fingers to make sure its completely air tight. Allow it 2 days to harden.
Take out the putty material with the help of tools in the dental tool kit. This will serve as your crown, you can put in on top of your tooth to protect it from more damage.
