How to Make a Motorcycle Muffler Louder

If you are one of those riders who want their motorcycles to sound very loud, your best shot is to purchase an aftermarket motorcycle exhaust. However, it is possible to save $200, the average cost of an aftermarket motorcycle exhaust by modifying the current muffle yourself. The best part is that you will not require any specialised tools and ideally, it should take around twenty to thirty minutes to complete the task. More importantly, if you modify a motorcycle muffler yourself to make it sound louder, you will need to spend about $20 only.

    After removing the center bit from a hole-saw, insert it into an electric drill. As replacement of a drill fitted with a hole-saw, you can use a corded drill in order to complete this task.

    You will be cutting the motorcycle muffler so in order to keep friction levels as minimum as possible, spray a good quantity of cutting oil on the rear of the muffler. Instead of cutting oil, you can also use WD40, a lubricant widely used where cutting through metal is required.

    Cut through the rear end of the muffler with the hole-saw or the corded drill, starting just inside the chrome ring. Cut through the first two layers of the muffler. Be careful while using the hole-saw or corded drill because there is a high risk of injury involved.

    Now you need to get rid of the baffle, a muffler component which suppresses sound within the muffler and prevents it from spreading it in the surroundings. Use a pair of vise grips to twist and pull the baffle until it detaches from the muffler.

    You motorcycles muffler may have more than one exhaust pipes. If that is the case, repeat the same process on other exhaust pipes as well. Wipe clean the lubricant that you used to reduce friction during the cutting process with a piece of dry cloth. The exhaust pipes may be heated so allow them to cool down and then kick start you motorcycle. It will sound more aggressive than before because you have successfully modified the motorcycle muffler.
