How to Make a Movie Fit on Any TV Screen
Making a movie fit on a TV screen is not that easy. The aspect ratio plays a key role in determining the width and length of the screen. The user must make the adjustments himself to make a movie fit on his/her television set. There are two ways to perform this task. You can either use the “pan and scan” tool to cut off unwanted parts or watch a movie in a letter box format that shows black bars on the bottom and top of the screen. Consider following some simple tips and instructions to get this job done quickly.

Before doing anything else, you must determine the make and model of your television. It is important to understand the differences between the pan and scan and widescreen technologies to be able to fit a movie on your TV screen effectively. Directors and movie makers think the widescreen is the best way of showing movies as it displays the entire image. Although pan and scan technology fill the gaps on the screen, it can always alter the focus and quality of an image. Using this technique, the entire movie has to be reedited which is done by focusing on the centre part of the truncated images. Depending on your personal taste, you may or may not be bothered by the pan and scan feature.

Next, you will be required to determine the aspect ratio value of your television set. Aspect ratio value can be usually found in the product manual with most TV sets having a fixed 4:3 value, which works for most types of films. However, if the aspect ratio value for your TV is different to others then you will have to make some adjustments to accommodate widescreen movies. Latest flat screen and LED technology TV’s allow the users to change the aspect ratio as per their own needs.

If you choose to see movies as they originally filmed, you will need to accept the fact that you will not be using all of your screen for some movies. It is recommended to check the DVD cover to determine if the movie you are going to watch is widescreen or full screen. Aspect ratio of the film can also be found on the back of the DVD cover. Remember it is entirely up to you as to which setting you like to watch movies on your television screen.
