How to Make a New Image Look Old with Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Photoshop CS5, a leading image-editing program, provides several ways to making changes to images to make them appear old. Which technique you should use depends on the look you’re trying to accomplish. To make a picture appear as though it was taken a long time ago, pre-colour photography and photographic camera allows you to implement a sepia impact. To make a picture appear old and grainy, you can use the texture narrow function. Whatever method you choose, few things provide more entertainment than testing with results in Adobe Photoshop.

Open the picture you want to make look old in Adobe Photoshop by simply clicking the "File" selection and selecting "Open." This shows the Start discussion box. Look at the computer file, choose it and then simply choose the "Open" key. Click the "Image" selection, choose "Mode," then choose "Grayscale" from the selection menu. Adobe Photoshop asks if you want to eliminate the image's shade information.

Click the "Discard" key. The picture changes from shaded to black and white. Click the "Image" selection, choose "Mode," then choose "Duotone" from the fly out selection. This reveals the Duotone Choices discussion box. From here you can implement shade tones or tints to the picture. To make the picture appear as though it were taken from an old-time photographic camera, you want to implement a brownish shade. Click the "Preset" drop-down selection and choose "BMY brownish 1." Adobe Photoshop can apply a brownish duotone to the picture, making it appear as though it were shot with an old photographic camera.

Click the "Filter" selection, choose "Texture" and then choose "Texturizer." This reveals the Filter Collection in Structure method. From here you can implement several textures to your picture, many of which will make the picture look old. Using the texturizer will accomplish many interesting results.

Click the first drop-down selection (it's not labelled) in the right line of the Filter Collection and choose "Halftone Pattern." Adobe Photoshop can be used to make old-looking, grainy halftone impact on the picture. You can increase or decrease the impact by adjusting the "Size" and "Contrast" sliders in the right line of the Filter Collection. Make the preferred adjustments and just click "OK."
