How to Make a Nixon Cocktail

This drink is another one of Joe Gilmore’s glorious creations at Savoy Hotel’s American Bar. The drink was invented for Richard Nixon, the American President when he visited Britain in 1969. When Joe mixed the drink, he sent it over to Claridge’s where the president was staying. This is where it gets its name from – The Nixon cocktail. Bourbon whiskey, Gin and peach bitter are mixed together to form this stimulating cocktail, fit for a president. Like all Joe Gilmore inventions, it treats you with its taste and has a tempting look when poured into the cocktail glass. So get yourself some bourbon and Gin and lets get the party started with our step by step guide to Nixon cocktail.

Preparation time: Can take you maximum ten minutes

– 1/2 Bourbon whiskey
– 1/2 sloe Gin
– two dashes peach bitters

Instructions

  • 1

Place your cocktail glass in the refrigerator for a chilled cocktail.

  • 2

Mix the bourbon, gin and peach bitter together with the help of a stirrer. Ensure that the ingredients are evenly mixed so that you get a smooth taste.

  • 3

Pour the mixture 'over the rocks'. It is a bartending term which means to pour the drink over ice cubes. So take the glass out of the refrigerator when the sides appear frosted. Put ice cubes into it and then pour out the cocktail mixture into it.

For garnishing use the peach slice and cherry. Using either one of them will be okay too. Let the peach slice flow in the water to create an appealing effect. As for the cherry, weave it on a toothpick and stick it to the glass sides.
