How to Make a Nourishing Hot Oil Treatment

Hot oil treatments are the ultimate pampering experience for hair that is dry, damaged, and in dire need of nourishment. Heating the oils before application enables the moisturising properties of the oils to penetrate deep into the scalp and nourish the very roots of the hair, eliminating everything from dandruff to dull hair. To give your locks some luxurious spa time at home, whip up a hot oil treatment to nourish and replenish your hair.

Things Required:

– 2 tablespoons avocado oil
– 2 tablespoons jojoba oil
– 1/4 teaspoon marsh mallow root
– 1/4 teaspoon comfrey

Instructions

  • 1

Begin by pouring both the avocado and jojoba oils into a small microwave-safe bowl. Heat them up for around 15 minutes, then take the bowl out of the microwave oven.

  • 2

Pour the marsh mallow root and comfrey into the warmed oils, and stir them in gently with a spoon. Comfrey has been acclaimed by many beauticians and hair experts as a sure-fire cure for dry hair and dandruff, while marsh mallow root is a known detangler, making it an ideal treatment for brittle, curly hair.

Wait 2 to 3 minutes, until the oil cools, and then strain it into another small bowl or a cup. Dip in a finger, to check the temperature of the oil – it should be warm, not scalding hot. If you can bear the warm oil comfortably on your bare skin, proceed to apply it to your hair.

Begin pouring the oil into your hair, and then use your fingers to distribute it evenly through your hair, and massage it into your scalp. Once your hair is coated in the hot oil, put on a shower cap, or wrap your hair in plastic wrap.

Allow the hot oil to stay on for at least 20 minutes (and at most 45 minutes), and then use warm water to rinse your hair. Shampoo and condition as per your regular routine, and towel your hair dry. Do not use heat to dry your hair, and do not rub vigorously with your towel – instead, allow the hair to air dry gently.
