How to Make a Photograph Look Old Using Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is one of the most widely used photo editing software and you can bring numerous special effects to simple photographs and make them look entirely different.     You need to install Adobe Photoshop 6.0 or later version into your computer. You can download it online easily.

    First of all, you have to remove the colours from the image, making it look black-and-white image. Open Photoshop and select ‘Image’ and click on ‘Adjust’ button. Clicking on ‘Desaturate’ option will remove all the colours from the image.

    If you want to crop only particular portion of the image, select ‘Marque’ tool and then go for ‘Image’ and ‘Crop’ options to select the desired portion of the image.

    Now are left with a cropped image in black and white format but you still have to add the effects to make it look old. Before doing that, you need to adjust some dust and scratches. Go to ‘Filters’ and click on ‘Noise’. You will find ‘Dust & Scratches’ option there. You can use ‘Plus’ and ‘Minus’ controls to view the image in full frame or in detail. Use the sliders, ‘Radius’ and ‘Threshold’ controls, to adjust the special effects until you have got the desired results.

    You might have noticed that older photographs have some grains within them, which were the results of clumping of silver halide crystals during the process of development. Select ‘Filters’ and go to ‘Noise’ option. Then click on ‘Add Noise’ button for adding grain to the image. You can use the sliders for adding as much grains as you feel appropriate to the image.

    Preview your image and you will be amazed to see it appears to be a perfectly old photograph.
