  Gather the equipments
  
  You need to gather all the equipments for making a short film. You can borrow from other people. Try asking your friends, family and other distant relatives. You can also rent out few types of equipment.

  Learn few major things about film making
  
  You need to learn few things of film making. Read and learn about focus ring, white balance and iris. You also need to get some books and learn from internet about how to use camera correctly.

  Narrative or Documentary
  
  Next you need to decide what type of film you want to shoot. It can be either narrative or a documentary. In case you are planning to shoot a fiction film, then it is narrative.

  Script
  
  First you need to outline the ideas for your film. You need to write down the script. In case you don’t know how to write one, get a book which teaches script writing. You need to write a rough outline first and then pursue the idea which is best. Write out the script afterwards. Remember take into consideration character development, inciting incident, plot development and character arc.

  Story-board each shot
  
  You need to think what each shot in the movie will be i.e. you need to determine whether a scene will have a wide shot, close up, over the shoulder, extreme close up or any other shot.

  Setting and equipments
  
  You should know what things and equipments will be required for each scene. What objects are required for a particular shot and also determine the setting of every scene.

  Crew
  
  Next you need to cast the characters and determine the whole crew of the film. You need to hire cameraman, actors, actresses, director, lighting personal etc. Also check the make-up, costumes and props.
