Using worn out stuff to make new useable things is really a productive hobby. You can make out decorative ornaments, toys, utensils, tools and other items of your daily use out of old things at your home. You must have some old shirts and tank tops which you don’t wear anymore and they keep occupying space in your closet. You can use your creative skills to make a purse out of an old tank top by yourself and save a lot of bucks. You just need to know how to sew and that is it!

Things Required:

– Tank top
– Iron
– Sewing machine
– Ribbon
– Scissors

Instructions

  • 1

Select a tank top you desire to convert into a purse but make sure it doesn’t have any holes or any defects in it. This might affect the finishing of your purse afterwards.

  • 2

Remove any wrinkles from the tank top by ironing it properly and making it perfectly flat. Wrinkle-free clothing will make it easier for you to work with.

  • 3

Determine the size of the purse you want to make. Larger the purse, more piece of clothing you will need and vice versa. The bottom part of the tank top is to be converted into a purse and you have to sew a seam on it according to the size of the purse you desire.

  • 4

Turn the tank top inside out and insert a pin at the bottom shut, just about an inch away from the edge, to affix it in its place. This will provide you ample space for making a seam a little bit away from the edge.

  • 5

Sew the tank top bottom with a machine, keeping a distance of one inch from the edges. You can double the seam for adding strength to the purse.

  • 6

You can make new handles for your purse or just use the tank top straps to serve the same purpose. If you go for making new handles, you better fold the tank top.

  • 7

Again iron the top part of the tank top and pin it at the edges after making it perfectly flat.

  • 8

You have to make a seam at the top and only one inch space will be needed. Cut off the excess of the clothing after leaving space for the seam.

  • 9

After you have sewed the top portion of the tank top, take two equal lengths of ribbon to make the straps of your purse. Pin them to the edges and then sew them at their position.
