Chicken is one dish that can be prepared in a very wide variety of ways. This particular recipe combines the crunchiness of baked chicken with the tangy flavor of orange glaze. Even if you are not a fan of Chinese cuisine, you will surely like this recipe. Since you will not be deep frying anything, the chicken pieces in this recipe are low on calories and healthier.
Ingredients
  • For The Chicken
  • Chicken Tenders - 1½lbs cut into chunks
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground ginger - ½ teaspoon
  • Shake n Bake extra crispy coating - 1 packet
  • For The Orange Sauce
  • Water - ¾ cup
  • Orange juice - ½ cup
  • Orange zest - 1 teaspoon
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon
  • Rice vinegar - 3 tablespoons
  • Low sodium soy sauce - ½ cup
  • Brown sugar, packed - ¼ cup
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Red pepper flakes - 1 teaspoon
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
Instructions
  1. Put the oven on preheat at 450 degrees.
  2. Take a small mixing bowl and add the Shake n Bake, ginger and garlic powder.
  3. Put a coating of this on the chicken tenders and put them on a greased baking sheet.
  4. Bake the chicken at 450 degrees on one side and then bake it for ten more minutes on the other side. Chicken will be fully cooked and become crispy by this time.
  5. Let the chicken stay in the oven and make the orange glaze on the side.
  6. Take a saucepan and combine orange juice, water, zest, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, vinegar, salt and pepper.
  7. Whisk all the ingredients together and cook the mixture over medium to high heat.
  8. Let the mixture simmer and keep whisking in between.
  9. Take another small bowl and mix water and cornstarch in it.
  10. Mix these two properly with a whisker and add the mixture to the sauce pan.
  11. Let the sauce simmer for 2 to 3 more minutes as you stir it.
  12. Once the sauce has thickened, take it off the heat and pour it over the crunchy baked chicken.
  13. Make sure the chicken pieces are thoroughly covered in the sauce before you serve them.
