Cheese straws are a tasty snack that are not only healthy but are enjoyed by the entire family. This delightful snack is excellent for picnics or parties as you can make a large quantity for your guests. Making cheese straws is not that difficult as it doesn't take a lot of time and the ingredients are easy to get.
Ingredients
- Sharp cheddar cheese, shredded - 8 oz
- Salt - ¾ tsp
- Flour - 2 cups
- Cayenne pepper - 1 tsp
- Butter, room temperature - ¾ cups
Instructions
- Consider setting the oven temperature to about 350 degrees.
- Wait for it to reach the required temperature. This may take 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the size of the oven.
- Now clean and rinse a bowl or a dish and add cheese, salt and cayenne to it.
- Blend the ingredients thoroughly until the mixture achieves a smooth texture.
- Gradually add flour to the ingredients and continue to blend to make sure it is dissolved uniformly but do not beat the dough too much.
- Start pouring the mixture into the cookie press canister about 75 percent full.
- Append the star shaped disc to squeeze the dough through.
- You can use any disc that you want as the goal is to get a nice pattern to enhance the overall look of the cheese sticks.
- Put the remaining dough into the fridge until you are ready to use it.
- Follow the pressing instructions to form long strips of dough and place them on lined baking sheets.
- If possible, cut each strip into two pieces to ensure they are evenly cooked.
- Bake the long strips of cheese mixture for about 10 minutes.
- Remove the cheese straws from the oven when they are yellowish brown in colour and allow them to cool on wire racks.
- Your cheese straws are now ready.
- You can add different flavours or spices to add a unique twist to this recipe.
