How to Make Clay Beads with Kids
If your kids are into crafts, you should teach them making clay beads, as that will be plenty of fun. You can make different hanging ornaments with the use of clay and then colour them with markers in order to make them look cooler.
Moreover, you can sell the clay beads in order to earn some money. This can be a great activity to pass your time, especially if your kids are free at home during vacations. However, you first need to gather all the tools required to make beautiful clay beads.
Things Required:
– Square sheet of clay (the kind that will dry without being fired) or Play-Doh, for smaller – kids
– Old newspaper
– Smock and/or old clothes
– Markers
– Straws
– Thin wire or strong yarn
– Knife
Instructions
-
1
Find a flat surface
In order to make perfect clay beads, you need to find a flat surface like a table. Make sure you cover the surface of the table with used newspaper or any other paper sheets, which are of no use to you. -
2
Lay the clay on table
Remove the plastic cover off the clay and lay it on the table. However, keep the plastic wrap beneath the clay. -
3
Cut the clay into cubes
Use a sharp knife to cut the clay into small cubes. You have to keep them about half inch size, so that you can easily make the beads out of them. -
4
Make balls from the cubes
After cutting the clay into cubes, you have to make small balls from them. Since the cubes will be smaller, you will easily manage to roll them on the table and make them round. -
5
Make a hole in the beads
Once you have made smaller balls from the clay, poke them with a straw in order to create a hole in the centre. You have to do that with all of the clay balls one by one. Afterwards, place them on a paper towel and let them dry. This will take a lot of your time, so you have to be a bit patient. -
6
Colour the beads
If you wish, you can colour the beads one by one in order to make them appear more beautiful. -
7
String the beads
String all of the beads on a wire and leave some space in the end, so that you can twist the wire comfortably.
