How to Make Covered Clothes Hangers as Gifts

Silk clothes often slip off wire hangers, ending up on the floor. However, you can prevent that by covering your hangers with fabric or yarn. These cute yarn covered hangers also make wonderful handmade gifts for your mom on Mother’s Day.

Things Required:

– 1 plastic coat hanger or two wire coat hangers (wire coat hangers have to match in shape exactly)
– Roll of masking or scotch tape
– Two colours of heavy rug yarn
– Yarn needle

Instructions

  • 1

If you are using wire hangers, you are required to start by joining two hangers together with the help of a scotch tape. Hold the two hangers together and apply small lengths of tape around the hooks at two or three spots. Join the bodies of the hangers as well by wrapping several pieces of scotch tape or masking around hangers at a number of spots.

Now tie the ends of the coloured yarns together in a knot, leaving about two to three inches of yarn on the other side of the knot. Position this knot against the hook of the hanger and secure it there with a piece of masking.

  • 3

Hold the hanger on you such that the hook is facing towards the ground and the two balls of yarn are on each side of the hanger.

  • 4

Take one ball and noose the yarn around the hanger to make a knot around the wire of the hanger. Repeat this method to make four more knots with the same ball. Then take the other ball and make five knots on the hanger in the opposite direction. Again pick up the first ball and make five loops and knots in the initial direction.

  • 5

Keep on repeating this method, making five loops and knots per colour, until you reach the other side of the hook.

Once you have wrapped the whole hanger, wrap the cut ends of both the yarns about the hook.
