French Onion Soup is delicious and easy to cook in your own kitchen. It requires only few basic things which everyone has in their kitchen and it build-up into a delicious thing.
Ingredients
- Unsalted butter - ½ cup
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Sliced onions - 4 cups
- Beef broth - 4 cans
- Dry sherry (optional) - 2 tablespoons
- Dried thyme - 1 teaspoon
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- French bread - 4 slices
- Provolone cheese - 4 slices
- Swiss cheese, diced - 2 slices
- Grated parmesan cheese - ¼ cup
Instructions
- First you need take an 8 quart stock pot. Put butter and olive oil in the pot and give medium heat to melt it.
- Then you need to add onions in the pot and gently stir them. Remember not to turn your onion brown.
- Next add beef, sherry and thyme into the pot and let it boil for almost half an hour. Also add salt and pepper according to your preferences in the pot.
- After adding beef, sherry and thyme and boiling it, you need to heat the oven broiler.
- In the end, pour the soup into bowls to serve. Put a slice of bread into the top of the serving bowls.
- Note that you can also put broken pieces of slices into the top of the bowls.
- You can layer slice or piece of bread with a slice of provolone, ½ slice diced Swiss and 1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese.
- After this, put the bowls on cookie sheet and place in the preheated oven.
- Broil the soup until cheese bubbles and start turning brown.
