How to Make Granola at Home

Granola is a healthy and delicious snack that is easy to make for your whole family. In addition to this, you can decide what ingredients you put in and make it as healthy as you desire. Keep in mind that granola might be rich in nutrients but it has a high level of fat. You can easily make granola at home after following some simple instructions.

Yields: 4 cups
Utensils: 2 mixing bowls, large sheet pan

Ingredients
Old fashioned oats: 2 cups (180 gm)
Sweetener such as sugar, maple syrup or honey: ¼ cup
Olive oil, vegetable oil, melted butter or melted coconut oil: ¼ cup
Nuts whole or sliced: 1 cup (140 gm)
More nuts, shredded coconut, dried fruit, seeds or chopped chocolate: 1 to 2 cups
Salt: Pinch
Flavouring such as vanilla, coconut or almond extract: 1 tsp
Spice such as cinnamon, ginger, pumpkin pie spice: ¼ to ½ tsp

    Preheat the oven

    First of all you need to preheat the oven at 350 degrees.

    Add oats, nuts and other dry ingredients in a mixing bowl

    Take a large mixing bowl and add one cup of sliced or whole nuts. Then add one to two cups of shredded coconut, dried fruit, seeds and any other dry ingredients in the bowl.

    Add oil/ melted butter, extracts and liquid sweetener in another mixing bowl

    Take another mixing bowl and add ¼ cup of vegetable or olive oil. Instead of these oils, you can use ¼ cup of melted butter or melted coconut oil. In addition to this, you need to add vanilla, coconut or almond extract into the mixing bowl. Then add any liquid sweetener if you choose one.

    Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients

    Now you need to add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly in order to moisten it.

    Bake

    After mixing all the ingredients, pour it out on a large sheet pan. Later bake the ingredients for almost half hour. Remember to stir it after every 10 minutes. Allow the mixture cool.

    Store for several weeks

    In the end you need to store the granola for several weeks. Remember to store it in an airtight container at room temperature.
