How to Make Lip Balm with Cocoa Butter

Nothing treats chapped lips like a lip balm. It not only prevents them from being chapped but also gives them a glossy healthy look. Some balms are even flavored like mint or strawberry and you can enjoy your favorite flavor all along. So the benefits of lip balms are no doubt numerous. There is huge variety of lip balms easily available in the market but many people still make them at home.

There are several reasons for that. Many of us are wary of the chemicals they use in them while others do not want to spend on anything that they can easily make at home. For many others making a lip balm at home is a part of their commitment to recycle stuff and play green. Our step by step guide teaches you how to make a lip balm no matter what the reasons may be.

Things you need:

– 3g beeswax
– 3g cocoa butter
– 3g shea butter
– 3 g jojoba oil
– 6 g castor oil
– any flavor like peppermint essential oil, orange essential oil or rose essential oil (4-5 drops)

You can alter the ingredients. However remember that all ingredients are of the same quantity (3g here) while castor oil is double that of others.

    Mix the Ingredients:

    Pour the ingredients except the flavor essence in a microwaveable bowl for heating in the oven or a saucepan over the stove. You can also melt it over a saucepan of boiling water as shown in the picture. Heat the ingredients until the they have melted and mixed together.

    Flavor it:

    Add the flavor to the molten mixture. You can also mix in a color of your choice. Artificial colors for make ups are readily available in the market.

    Set it Down:

    Take any container which you want to fill with the lip balm. These could be your old lip balm tubes. Pour the molten liquid into these containers carefully without knocking them over.

    Preserve it:

    Fill them and forget them for half an hour. This will allow the balm to cool down and set nicely in the container. It will be ready to use after that. Viola!!
