How to Make Popsicle Stick People

Engaging kids in interesting and creative arts and crafts activities is something every parent looks to do, particularly during summer vacations, when kids frequently complain of boredom. The best part about craft activities is that you do not need to buy expensive ready-made things from the market – you can use ordinary items lying around the house, and make creative use of them by turning them into interesting craft pieces. These craft-making sessions are also a great way to interact and spend time with your child.

However, in their quest to keep their kids entertained, parents often run out of ideas when it comes to keeping young minds busy and animated. If you are out of ideas, and looking for something for your kids to do, making popsicle stick people is an excellent idea, and is an extremely cost-effective activity – all you need is some basic stationery and your children can make themselves stick people to play with.

Things Required:

– 5 popsicle sticks
– Glue
– Yarn
– Scissors
– Crayons, markers and colored pencils
– Paper sheet/cardboard/paper plates

Instructions

  • 1

You have five sticks for each stick person. Trim four of them using the sharp scissors. The last one left is the torso while the trimmed ones will make the legs and the arms. Make sure that the arms and legs are of equal size.

  • 2

Attach the legs and arms to the uncut popsicle stick to make the skeleton. Dab glue on each part and press them to the position on the torso where they should be. Once you glue all four parts, place the torso under a heavy book so that the pressure makes them adhere well.

  • 3

Take a white paper. Paint it a color of your choice. To save the work, you can also use a colored sheet of paper. Cardboard is more durable. Paper plates are also a good option. Draw out circles for the faces of the stick people. Draw expressions of your choice using paint, colors or black marker. Make the facial features including eyes, eye brows, nose, mouth and cheeks. Cut out these faces and stick them to the heads of the people using glue. Place a heavy book over the sticks to help the faces adhere well.

To make the stick people's hair, cut out strands of yarn and attach them to the head of the people using the glue. The hair will also help you differentiate between genders.

Make as many people as you want and according to the number of sticks you have. You can also vary the gender and age with the torso size, the facial features and hair.
