Find template:
You can go online and search for traceable templates that you can easily download or print. This will help you get a basic shape or design to trace before cutting the cardboard. -
2
Make paper sketch:
Lay out the large sheets of paper on the floor and make your pattern, design or object using a template and your pencil. Remember to take your time and if you make any mistakes you can always just erase the pencil trace marks and start over. -
3
Tape paper on cardboard:
Now that you have the outline or sketch of the prop that you want you can now tape the paper on top of the cardboard pieces. Be sure to lay the cardboard absolutely flat so that it will make it easier to tape the paper on top and cut it. Remember to tape the paper on the cardboard so that it does not move before you cut it. -
4
Cut cardboard:
Using your box cutter carefully start cutting along the trace lines of your sketch. Be sure to push down hard on the cutter as you cut the cardboard. Remember to be careful and take all the necessary safety precautions as you use the box cutter. Take your time as you cut the cardboard so that you do not make any mistakes and ruin your cardboard sheets. -
5
Make base:
If you want your prop to stand on its own then make a simple base using some of the excess cardboard that you cut off. Make a simple T-shape for a base using some of the tape to secure it. -
6
Decorate props:
You can now decorate your prop using basic paint. For example if you cut a tree shape then you can just paint it with different mixtures of green to give it a realistic feel. Depending on your stage production budget you can use some creativity to decorate your props effectively to give your stage performance some depth with decent props.
