How to Make the Best Flaky Pie Crust
Buying a pre-made frozen pie crust from your local grocery store is no doubt a very simple to make a quick pie recipe, but nothing beats a freshly homemade flaky pie crust. It looks tricky baking activity, but it is super simple to make. All it requires is, four to six ingredients and a proper procedure to put them together.

Yield: 01 large pie crust
Utensils: mixing bowl, pie plate, plastic wrapping sheet, 9 to 10-inch pie dish
Ingredients:
All-purpose flour: 1 ¾ cups
Granulated sugar: 2 teaspoons
Table salt: ¾ teaspoon
Cold unsalted butter – small dice: 6 tablespoons
Shortening: ¼ cup
Ice water: 7 to 8 tablespoons

Place 1 ¾ cups of all-purpose flour in a large mixing bowl and scatter 2 teaspoons of granulated sugar all over the top. Top the flour-sugar mixture with ¾ teaspoon of table salt and mix well.

Now place 6 tablespoons of diced cold unsalted butter in the mixing bowl and use one of your hands to mix the ingredients until the butter cubes are coated from all sides.

Use your forefingers and thumb to rub the coated butter in order to incorporate it into the flour mixture.

Continue rubbing with your hand until converts into bean sized pieces and comes together perfectly in the quarter-sized clumps when compressed in palm.

Add in ¼ cup of shortening and mix well. Continue mixing and rubbing the added shortening with the flour mixture for the next 2 minutes until it forms pea-sized chunks.

Pour in half cup of ice water and use your fingers to rake it through the flour-butter mixture until slightly moistened.

Drizzle in the remaining ice water – one tablespoon at a time. Now use your fingers to comb together the mixture until moistened well and forms messy dough.

Knead the dough for the next 5 to 8 minutes and shape it like a round ball at the end.

Place a plastic wrapping sheet on a smooth surface and put the dough on it.

Now cover the dough with the wrapping sheet, press it down into a flat disk and then close it wrap thoroughly.

Place the wrapped dough in your refrigerator for 25 to 30 minutes.

Take out the dough from refrigerator after half an hour, unseal it and roll it carefully to give it a pie crust shape.

Shift it into a large pie plate or pie dish without disturbing its shape.

Now fill it with your favourite pie filling, bake according to the instructions and enjoy it.
