How To Make Tomato Gravy

Most of us eat gravy with our regular meals, as it is quite delicious and also has nutritional benefits. It does not take much time to be ready and you can serve it to your guests too, especially if you don’t have anything else to cook.

You can use different ingredients to make gravy, but the most common one used with it is tomato. It is used in a lot of dishes and has got several health benefits, so you can always prefer it over junk food.

Children often like eating sour things and you can add more tomatoes to the gravy in order to fulfil their needs. It does not damage your health at all and the best part is the ease with which tomatoes are available in all parts of the world.

Utensils: Skillet (cast iron preferred), Measuring cup and implements, Spatula or spoon for stirring, Knife

Ingredients:

– 2 medium tomatoes or 1-14.5 oz can of stewed tomatoes, drained
– 1/2 to 3/4 cup of self-rising flour, sifted
– 3/4 to 1 cup of milk or warm water, or part of both
– Salt & pepper(optional)
– 1/4 to 1/2 cup vegetable oil or extra virgin olive oil

    Preheat the skillet

    First of all, preheat the skillet on medium heat. Make sure that it is completely dry and clean.

    Slice the tomatoes

    After washing the tomatoes, slice them into small chunks.

    Heat the oil

    Pour the oil into the pan and heat it for a few minutes. Do not add anything to it until it gets extremely hot.

    Start adding the flour to the pan

    Once the oil gets heated, start adding the flour to the skittle. Make sure not to add all of it at once. This process should be done slowly and while you do it, continue stir the mixture until it gets thick.

    Add milk to the flour

    Now, start pouring in the milk into the pan. It should be done in a similar way to what you used while adding flour. Continue whisking the mixture and allow it to cook for sometimes.

    Add tomatoes to the skittle

    Once the milk and flour settle in, add the sliced tomatoes into the pan and continue stirring the gravy.

    Heat until getting desired thickness

    Heat the gravy until you get desired thickness. The white mixture will become a bit reddish and you can remove it from the burner.
