How to Measure Garage Doors

Take measurement from side to side (bottom)
You must ask your friend or any other family member for assistance, as with the help of another person, you can note down the measurements in a couple of minutes. Ask your friend to hold one end of the measuring tape and place him on one extreme. Now walk towards the other end of the door and note down the reading, make sure that you take this reading from the bottom of the gate. -

Take measurement from side to side (top)
After you have taken the reading from the bottom, now you must repeat the same to obtain the reading from the top of the door. Ask your friend to stand on the other side of the door and carefully take the reading. After the reading from the top, you must compare it with the first reading to note whether there is any discrepancy or not. If there is a difference, then your door must be bent, consider asking a contractor to repair your door. -

Take measurement from top to bottom
Now you should bring a ladder to take measurement of the door from top to bottom. Ask your friend to hold the end of the measuring tape to the bottom of the door and you should climb the ladder to take the reading. After you have noted the size from top to bottom, ask your friend to hold the ladder for you and step down from the ladder. -

Note the difference between door and roof
Now you should once again climb the ladder and note the difference between the door and the roof of the garage. -

Measure the space between door and closest wall
People often overlook the need to calculate this distance. However, it is very important that you measure the space between door and the closest wall.
