Contact the U.S. State Department
If due to some reason, you want to obtain a copy of your passport online, you must contact the U.S. State Department and make the request. With the help of this, you will be provided a detailed list of third party contractors authorised by the U.S. government, which will solve the issue for you. Note that the U.S. government has handed over this contract to a third party which is strictly monitored by the U.S. State department and is allowed to issue the passport copies to individuals online. -

Choose a passport service
Now you must choose an online passport service provider authorised by the U.S. government. You do not fall for a company with low privacy structures, thus it is of pivotal importance that you check their privacy policy. You must ensure that they have an extended SSL certificate as this is considered a good indicator for strong privacy. -

Gather the required documents
It is of utmost importance that you gather the required documents and fulfil all the requirements to complete your application form. You would be required to give evidence of your citizenship, thus you must provide your birth certificate, certificate of citizenship or passport. You will also be required to provide your recent passport size photographs not older than 6 months. Do not forget to make two copies of the letter of authorization.
