How to Offer Namaz – Sunni Way

There would be hardly any part of the world where you do not happen to hear the “Call for Namaz” or the Azan. There is no doubt about the fact that Azan is the most heard call than any other all across the world. It is normally offered 5 times in a day and the Muslims have to accordingly offer prayers or Namaz 5 times a day. As parents it is necessary for you to start teaching your kids about Namaz at the age of 7. However, if your child is not able to offer Namaz solely by the age of 10 then there has to be a punishment. For any reason, if you do not have an idea of offering Namaz it is still not too late.

Instructions

  • 1

Make sure that before you stand at the prayer mat also called Jai-Namaz you have properly performed the Ablution(Wuduh) and purified yourself from every kind of filth and dirt.

  • 2

Lay the Jai-Namaz such that it is pointing in the direction of Kaaba also known as Qibla. Now stand on the Jai-Namaz facing Kaaba for the first step that is known as Qayyam.

  • 3

During Qayam, make sure that the your feet are spread no more than four to five fingers apart and you are not looking anywhere else with your head down.

  • 4

Make up your intention or Niyat for the Namaz by saying "I pray two Rakah (or as many required) Fard (for Fard or say Sunnat for Sunnat or say Wajib for Wajib and say Nafil if it is Nafil) Qurbatan- ILL- Allah (For Allah Almighty).

  • 5

After you have made the Niyat and it is good to do so in your heart without saying it. Now raise both your hands with open palms such that the thumbs touch the lobes of your each ear and say

    "Allah Hoo Akbar"

  • 6

As you have said "Allah Hoo Akbar", now stand with hands on navel right hand on top of left hand such that you have locked or grabbed the left hand wrist with rest of the three fingers of right hand channeled in line to each other.

  • 7

Now you shall be reciting two Surahs from the Holy Quran such as:

    - Subhana Kalla Humma Wa Bee Hamdika Wata Baara Kasmooka Wa Ta'ala Jaddoo Ka Wa La ilaha Ghairuka"

    - Aaoo Zoo Billahee Minash Shaitaunir Rajeem", "Bismillah Hir Rahmaanir Raheem"

    - Alhamdo Lillahi Rabbil Aalameen Ar Rahmaanir Raheem Maaliki Yaomid Deen iyya Kana Budoo Wa iyya kanastaeen ihdinas Siratual Mustaqeem Siratual Lazeena An Amtaa Alaihim Ghairil Maghdoobe Alaihim Walad Dualleen"…Ameen

  • 8

After this Surah which is the very first one in the Holy Quran, you will give some pause and then recite another Surah such as:

    - Aaoo Zoo Billahee Minash Shaitaunir Rajeem", "Bismillah Hir Rahmaanir Raheem"

    - Wal A'sre Innal Insaana Lafi Khusr illal Lazeena Aamanoo Wa A'milos Sualihaati Wa Tawa Sao Bil Haqqi Wa Tawa Sao Bis Sabr

  • 9

Once you are done with reciting the second Surah, raise your hands and say "Allah Hoo Akbar" and go into Ruku, by bowing and holding your knees with your hands and back horizontal like a board. In this state you will say:

    - Subhaana Rabbiyal Azeem

  • 10

Repeating the above atleast three times, stand up again by saying

    - Samee Allahoo Layman Hamidah - Rabbana Lakal Hamd

and immediately go into the Sajdah by placing your face on ground and say

    - Subhaana Rabbiyal Aala"

    at least three times.

  • 11

After pausing for sometime sit up with your left foot and the right foot should be sticking with all the foot fingers twisted and the soft part of the foot fingers touching the ground. Sit for the amount of time you could say Subhan Allah at least three times and then again go to Sajdah.

  • 12

Performing the Sajdah in the same way as before, stand up and repeat the same first Surah you did in the previous rakah without the Qayyam. However, the second Surah can be some other such as:

    - Innaa Aataina Kal Kauser Fasalli Li Rabbi Ka Vanhar Inna Shaaniaka Hooal Abtar.

  • 13

As you are done with the above step, repeat the acts made in the 9, 10 and 11th step. After doing the second Sajdah recite the following Qaidah:

    - Atthayyato Lillahe Wassalawato Wat Tayyebato Assalamu Alaika Ayyohan Nabiyo Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatoh Assalamu Alaina Wa Ala ibadillahis Sualaiheen Ashadu An La ilaah illal Laho Wa Ashadu Anna Mohammadan Abdohoo Wa Rasooluhoo.

  • 14

After you have completed reciting the above, now read the following Darood Shareef:

    - Allah Humma Salle Ala Mohammadiyon Wa Ala Ale Mohammadin Kama Sallaita Aala Ibraheema Wa Ala Aalay Ibraheema inna Ka Hameedum Majeed. Allah Humma Baarik Aala Mohammadiyon Wa Ala Ale Mohammadin Kama Barakta Ala Ibraheema Wa Ala Ale Ibraheema inna Ka Hameedum Majeed.

  • 15

Once you are done with reading the above Darood Shareef, read this dua:

    - Allah Humma Rabbana Aatina Fid Dunya Hasanah Wa Fil Akhirate Hasanah Wa Qina Azaban Naar.

  • 16

Finally, after reading the dua turn your head towards right and say:

    - Assalamo Alaikum Wa Rehmatullah

then turn your head on the left side and read the same,

    - Assalamo Alaikum Wa Rehmatullah

Your Namaz or Salat has been completed now.
