How to Overcome Fear of Swimming

Every one of us is fearful of something. The fear of water, heights and fire are the most common. Like any other fear, the fear of swimming can also be overcome. Swimming is fun and a great form of physical exercise. The people who are scared of swimming need to understand that water helps us in staying up. No matter how tall or healthy you are, the water will hold you. The tips given below will help you to say yes to this pleasurable exercise.

Also, if there is any trouble, a life guard is always there to help. Confide in a friend. They can tell you their good experiences in water and also give support. Your partner can accompany you to the pool and show you how easy it is to be comfortable in water.

    You need to be aware that water is not working against you; rather it is your friend. Start by relaxing your body and floating. This will help you understand that water will carry the weight of your body. Floating is the initial step as you lie still in the water without moving your hand and feet.

    To overcome your fear you need to face it. So start to go near the water more often. Sit on the edge and put your feet in it. This will increase your comfort level.  The more time you spend near the water, the less scared you will be. As you are a beginner, the edge is also the most appropriate place to start.

    Don’t keep on hesitating. First get used to staying in water. Go to the pool daily and get in, even if you are not swimming. It will take some time then you will start enjoying it. After that, hire an instructor to learn proper swimming. Don’t be very strict on yourself, set achievable goals. Share your fears with the instructor so that he gives you special attention. Then, leave all your fears behind and enjoy this pleasure.
